But hey, no harm, no fowl, right?

Without any feather ado, allow me to introduce Riley.

This was knit following Parrot by Susie Johns from her book “Knitted Pets: A Collection of Playful Pets to Knit From Scratch” – although I had to grey scale the red macaw into an African grey parrot…

Nest up, I will tell you the tail of Riley. I GM Call of Cthuhlu, and I run it as an open world, sandbox type thing where players can do as they please, and eventually plot and monsters and mayhem will find them, willing or not. One of my players decided to go to an animal shelter and get a familiar.

They picked an African grey parrot.

I gave them Riley. She has more sass and character in one wing than some of my players characters have in their whole being, and despite her very distracting chatter, she was loved and hated by all.

There was just one thing missing…

Riley needed a physical body, and a character sheet, and she got both. Last session was a hoot.

I like to think that even though I am a cruel and wicked GM, that I spoil my players occasionally…

In other news, vikings is going good – I’m officially a member of the group, and even got to pick my viking name. Looking forward to getting my kirtle (thank you Rabbie! Your awesome!) and getting the chance to do some shows. They’re very happy I can use a drop spindle as not many of them can, although I will be doing more nalbinding once I spin the wool for it, and hopefully be able to start showing you some finished items that aren’t essentially coasters.

Life is still…being a lot, but it’s getting better and getting there. Just waiting for some more things to nudge into place and get sorted and hopefully my plate will be significantly less overflowing.

Till next post, stay safe.

I’ll be there…Owl Bear there… kind of hard to manage a pun with owl bear specifically but I think I will count that as a win on my pun blog post entries…

First of all, as you will have noticed, no past last week as I was in Cheddar, busy exploring caves, running about gorges and eating far too much cheese. For those who follow my Instagram, you will have seen a little wild knitting photo of me in Cheddar Gorge.

It has taken me this long to recover enough to actually put together a blog post, and for being patient, there’s a bit of a treat today!

But first, the knitting:

I have a long standing tradition of knitting my gaming friends a dice bag the first birthday they have in the group. This particular friend already had a small mountain of dice bags, so I decided to knit a dice bag bag. A bag for dice bags?

Moving on. She loves Owl-Bears, but try as I might I just couldn’t find the perfect chart so…I made one. The one you see is version 6 (the first version could best be described as an owl blob and it never need be mentioned again). I just winged a bag pattern to fit round the chart in her favourite colour, and voila!

Which brings me on to the treat for today: The Owl Bear Chart is available in the free patterns page!

Hope you all have a great week and until next post, stay safe!

A little while ago I sent my dad’s Mrs a pair of knitted slippers as she was getting a very grim sounding operation done to her foot. My dad rang to tell me that they had received it, that she loved them, but where was his gift?

After a bit of banter, it was decided that I would knit him a hat that was a nod to the formal dress of his old military unit, the Royal Scots Dragoon.

Which is…dark blue, almost black, with a yellow zig zag.

Outbreak was more than happy to display the contrasting colours against her fur for me! The pattern used is a free one called Joey by Susan Moskwa. It’s supposed to be knit in one solid colour, but…when do I not tinker with knitting patterns?

In other knitting news, my projects have multiplied even more so now I feel like I’m going even slower – but there is logic behind it all. Namely, hedging the odds in my favour against the inevitable yarn chicken I am going to have to play. Some things I can get away with…others not to much.

Besides from that, not a lot really. We had a much deserved quiet weekend, where we all spent a lot of time just chilling and enjoying each others company playing games. It was nice.

My Cthuhlu game on Friday though was hysterical, but it was, as always, a ‘you had to have been there’ kind of funny. I’m very much looking forward to the next session to see what craziness ensues!

And with that, I wish you all a good and safe week!

As promised, I knitted the little harness and a tiny B-12 to go with Little Outsider!

Want to take a look?

For the harness I very much knit a little, checked the fit, knit a bit more, checked again, until it looked about right. For B-12 I got several images of him and then went by replicating the rough shapes the adding on details.

I think he looks quite cute getting a little ride in the harness! He does fit in all the way, but a plain harness is a bit boring to photograph!

In other knitting news, I have several projects on the go, which means that I am knitting lots but not finishing anything. Some of these are Christmas gifts, so even when I finish them I can’t share them right away sadly.

In non knitting news, after a successful cthuhlu session the other week, we’re having another this week! Not going to lie, I have had incredible indecision on just how to go about killing/driving my players insane. So many choices, so few victims…

The new job role is going great – I’m pretty tired at the moment though as I’m using my brain lots! Lots of new things to learn as well as finally getting the answer to ‘why’ that I had in my previous role. The answer by the way is very long, very complex, and contains an awful lot of ‘for this specific device under these specific conditions…’

With that, I will see you all next week! Take care and stay safe!

(Oh, there was a typo on last posts wool count, I have redone the maths and it is all correct below!)

(And no, the typo was not the 25 in 25 balls of wool, I really did buy that much)

To explain the title of this post, Stray (the amazing post apocalyptic cat game) has of course swept through our house and we’ve all become obsessed with the adorable ginger kitty.

Then, when I went to type this post, I realised that B12 didn’t ever give the cat a name. The only time anything like a name was used, was by Momo, who called the kitty ‘Little Outsider’.

Anyway, why am I telling you all this?

Because of this:

I intend to knit his little harness and a tiny B12 to go with it so that he’s ready for Walled City 99!

In non knitting news, it has been a very busy two weeks – last week was the first cthuhlu session with a new gaming group, followed by three more days of socialising and catching up with friends. Then work, which was very busy as we had people on holiday plus three new starters all needing training.

This weekend saw more socialising of the kiddy kind as Felix’s birthday is this week. There was pokemon card playing with one friend, a sleepover with another, and Chester Zoo with that friend and Felix!

I am all socialed out. However…today is also the first day of my new role! I changed departments (not company) and today was my first official day! So socialising and learning lots of new things!

And with that, it’s an early night for me!

I would love to promise that this is the last of the fox related things, but the urge to use this knitted fur technique to make more and more is incredibly powerful!

and without further ado, fox ears:

So very cute! Although the cats seem to think that they’re either a toy just for them, or a small furry animal just begging to be pounced on…

Here you can see Outbreak “helping” within three seconds of my placing the ears in the floor for a photograph. I suspect I will need to knit them something using the same knitted fur technique I have used for the ears…

Oh, normally at this point I would link a pattern but…there isn’t one. This is me just playing around…

In other wooly news, I finally spun and plyed the Shetland fleece I have been playing with for the last few weeks – it was a challenge for myself to spin as fine as possible, as consistently as possible. Having been 2 plyed it has come out at 150m of lace weight yarn. It’s a little thinner in places, but not thicker, so it’s definitely getting there!!

No idea what it will be. However, I have plans and ideas in the works that require me to spin yarn, so more shall be spun, but with intention.

…am I the only one that think that sounded unnecessarily aggressive? Spinning with intention?

Anyhoo, very busy week at work, no gaming but Inkling did get to go to a trampoline birthday party and as he is under five, I had to go with him and ‘supervise’. The sore muscles today were worth it. Felix didn’t miss out as she got to have an adventure with Engel on the motorbike.

After so much excitement, we finished the weekend with board games and cleaning up some Battletech miniatures that the terrors are looking forward to painting.

Until next week, take care!
