Tag: Mummy can make that!

After making the last Nerf Dart bag for Engel, Felix demanded her own! And being a sucker for her little puppy eyes…

The Flipfury is Felix’s birthday present and the catalyst that led to the current Nerf craze still sweeping through the house, the Slingfire is mine, I have a thing for big guns blasters!

Not much else to report at the moment, still trying to get in the swing of things at work and home again whilst shaking off one of the many plagues the terrors keep bringing into the house…

I should have called them Bubonic and Typhoid…

The title made me giggle…

Anyhow! Let’s start with Biggles. Ages ago, I knit Inkling an Aviator hat, which, from the moment I first put it on him, has been referred to as the Biggles Hat. This hat has been excellent with the cold weather, and it’s super cute.

So, moving on, we have a but of a tradition in my little household where everyone gets a gift on Christmas Eve which is of the warm and wooly variety so that they don’t get eaten by the Yule Cat.

Seriously, it’s a real thing!

(We find it helps ease the super excitement of presents on Christmas Day when the kids are at the point they can’t wait any longer and must open something!)

So, we all got socks and/or jumpers and/or gloves, and I couldn’t leave out Missy, especially as we were all staying at my sister’s! So she got…

Isn’t she adorable in it? More of that on her blog!

And now onto…Mrs Tiggly-Winks! Whom I found tidying up my loganberry in the front garden…

And possibly the only knit that I’m more proud of the back than I am of the front!

Out of all the Alan Dart Beatrix Potter knits that I’ve done so far, she is definitely the most complex! Especially those FIFTY quills individually sewn onto her bonnet, back and bustle!

Now onto the next project – one I definitely need sunglasses for!

Or at least, time to have something suitable made to help with the clean up after said Nerf Battles…

A bag just right for storing all those rogue Nerf darts that I keep finding! In bright orange and dark blue via Engels request (I had started this entirely in bright orange, but it was eye wateringly neon!)

The pattern is very loosely based on the free pattern Pignoli by Berroco Design Team ‘ the pattern calls for knitting a large panel then felting it, seeing as my neon orange was acrylic, I reduced the number of stitches and skipped the felting. I also added a flap and handle to keep the darts secure inside and to make it easy to carry.

I like the rib effect as the more full the bag gets, the more you see the orange!

Felix has already informed me just what colours she wants her Nerf dart bag to be so she has somewhere to store her darts…she’s as bad as her daddy!

This was one of those spontaneous projects that occurs due to events or circumstances far beyond your control. And subsequently, a necessity to troll a work colleague.

And that is all that will be said regarding the reason behind why I knitted this cutie:

He’s a combination of the fantastic free pattern LaPrawnda the Shrimp by Ashley Dorian Medwig and Crab by Sarah Keen from the book ‘100 Little Knitted Projects’.

You want a full body shot?

And another close up of that adorable little face?

This was far too much fun to photograph…rest assured, no knitted lobsters where harmed in the making of this blog post, though he is now regularly being ‘cooked’ in Felix’s toy kitchen! She has a red one that she brings out after putting this guy in the ‘oven’ that she declares ready to eat…

That’s all really this week, have a lot on my plate right now (and a few things on the needles) with it being this close to Christmas and the end of the year…

See you all next week!

First of all, if this post looks weird/different then it’s all due to a huge WordPress update that has changed everything!!!!

Hopefully I can post without too much difficulty…*

Anyhow! A few weeks ago I got the chance to dye some yarn with my wooly playdate pal (it’s great, she has a daughter a year older than Felix so they get a playdate and I get one too! The boys…talk about computers…?)

After a very fun day I was left with 5 10g lots of Blue Leicester wool which I had dyed all kinds of colours, so what to do with them?

Knit of course!

Isn’t he a cutie? It’s a free Knitty pattern, Nautie by Beth Skwarecki and a fun one to make at that, I particularly like how you pick up stitches as you go to twist it into that distinct shell shape…

I used every bit of one of my five lots of wool, and a tiny bit of a second for the head and tentacles. Need to have a think of what to do for the other pretties…for now, I’m pleased with what I have achieved!

Think if I drop enough hints Engel might get me the dyes for Christmas? Or perhaps I shouldn’t start another hobby?

* Famous last words, it’s taken me four attempts and about fourty minutes to type and post this!

Back in June, some of you may remember that I knitted a number of hobgoblin hats. (It spanned three posts, so three links.) Not too long afterwards Rabbie came to visit – a great weekend even if nothing went to plan – and brought her hubby, Missy and a very good friend of there’s, now known as The Goblin King.

This is due entirely to him running around, wearing Engels hobgoblin hat (based on the Wychwoods Hobgoblin ‘King Goblin’ beer) to humour a then four year old despite it being 30C…

Anyway, he’s gone down in Felix’s childhood history as ‘The Goblin King’ and frequently brings him up as such in conversation.

So, it had to be done. Drumroll please!

A King Goblin hobgoblin hat, just for the Goblin King! (Once again used the free pattern Oblio’s Cap by Emily Anna Bingham)

The hat has been photographed with Engels hat and a bottle of the relevant beer so you can see what it’s based on. And a keg of straight up Hobgoblin.

Engel likes his dark beers.

Though he humoured me by getting a bottle of the IPA Hobgoblin so I could get a photograph of each hat with the relevant beer! They make a good set, don’t they?

The plan is to post the hat up to the Goblin King for Christmas, with no explanation given as to why he’s recieved it. Just for the giggles.

That is, if I can get Crumble to give it back…

As mentioned on my last post, Felix wanted a Cerberus that looks like her favourite fur-cousin Missy!

Here’s the cutie in question:

I will never tire of posting photos of that dog, she is so cite! Anyway, the first  attempt of the Cerber-issy came out fantastic, but much too large.

So heres my second attempt:

I heavily modified the pattern Husky Dog by Kath Dalmeny from her book ‘World of Knitted Toys’ and I must say, I’m really pleased! Not as detailed as the first, but still cute and it’s the right size!

Hooray!

So, Felix wanted me to knit her a Cerberus to look after her haunted house, easy enough, except it had to also look like her favourite fur cousin, Missy.

Despite her markings, she isn’t a Rottweiler. She is a bundle of adorableness though!

So with that as a my goal, I knit…

Cute, no? Based on the ‘Labrador’ pattern from ‘Best in Show’ by Sally Muir and Joanna Osborne. I was planning on knitting the next two heads but…

Poor Missy was now in the cone of shame. What to do?

Put a cone of shame in the knitted one of course! At this point I realised this Cerber-issy was going to be way too big for the haunted house, so this little cutie will be going up to Scotland to join the real Missy whilst I continue with Cerber-issy Take 2!

Uncle Matt, the wizard! Felix requested this specific doll the moment I agreed to make them for her haunted house. And it had to be her uncle, not just any old wizard!

I’m quite pleased with his beard…once again I’ve altered the free Fairy Doll pattern by Stephanie Law.

Also, far Halloween I made a pair of Itty Bitty Pumpkins (a free pattern) by Sparrow Kelley.

So cute!

I have just one more thing to make for the haunted house and that’ll be all the knitting done for it! I’ll be back to my regular eclectic mix of knits!

Till then!

A werewolf!

(Based on the 1941 Wolfman, played by Lon Chaney)

And next, a mummy!

(I wish I could say I had based it on the classic 1932 movie, but I didn’t, this one I just winged!)

As with the previous doll’s, I’ve made them based on the free pattern Fairy Doll by Stephanie Law. There’s just one left to make, who I’ll have ready to reveal for next week!

Oh, and Rabbie, to were close enough in your guess for me to call it a hat trick!

Just a short post today as it’s Halloween weekend and there’s a lot of fun things to be doing! Yesterday was Halloween on the Green, followed by some friends coming round, and today it’s Halloweekend in Manchester, there’s a whole range of spooky activities to be getting on with!

Now to pick a costume…
